DUE to the extreme temperature expected for south-western Sydney on Thursday, Harness Racing New South Wales has announced there will be a change for runners engaged in Sunday’s Miracle Mile.
Horses competing in Sunday’s $750,000 event were originally required to report to the Retention Barn at Tabcorp Park Menangle by 1pm on Thursday but with the temperature predicted to reach 43 degrees, horses will now be required to attend by Friday 9am.
Chief Operating Officer Reid Sanders confirmed the change on Wednesday.
“HRNSW acknowledges the importance of the level playing field for all participants and hence the use of the Retention Barns, however we are also very mindful of equine welfare and with the predicted heat and horses having to travel, we have elected to amend the entry time. We strongly believe this will in no way effect the integrity of the Retention Barn’s effectiveness,” Sanders said.
Horses engaged in Sunday’s NSW Derby, NSW Oaks and Ladyship Mile will all be required to attend the HRNSW Training Facility by 12pm (midday) Friday. There is no change to these requirements.
Horses will remain under the supervision of HRNSW until released to the raceday stables 2 hours prior to the race.
