Goulburn based junior reinsman Harrison Ross recorded his best result at a race meeting when he racked up four winners at Bathurst on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old who has held a licence since 2019 has struck a purple patch in form during the past month, being in demand from trainers who have taken full advantage Harrison’s five-point concession claim.

Three of his winners at Bathurst were for Goulburn trainer in Neil Day, who himself has been churning out plenty of winners and has developed a strong rapport with Ross.

The first of the combination’s treble came in the shape of four-year-old mare Dance Addition in race two, while rejuvenated unhoppled pacer Baxter Red led throughout to make it back-to-back wins for them in race three.

Then later in the night gelding Yum Cha returned to form scoring his first win in 14 months after emerging from the pack to overpower his rivals.

Ross’ first winner was provided by Crookwell trainer Scott Hewitt in the opening race when My Crackling Rosie scraped in the score by a narrow margin after over-racing in the lead and setting a fast pace.

“It was certainly a good night for me at Bathurst,” said Ross.

“I landed my first treble at Goulburn recently which gave me a massive thrill, so am over the moon to have now driven four winners on the one program, especially on such a big night in front of a good crowd. It is something that I will remember forever.

“I am being afforded quality drives from astute stables which is humbling, and I am very grateful for the opportunities given to me.

“I guess driving winners for those owners and trainers is the best way to repay their faith in me.”

Overall, it was a fruitful night for horses trained out of the Goulburn region with six of the nine winners coming from the area.

Harrison’s mentor Brad Hewitt also picked up a double while his ultra-consistent open class pacer Taipo ran a gallant second to Cya Art in the Shirley Turnbull Memorial.
