Downbytheseaside to stand in NZ
Noted South Auckland nursery, Woodlands Stud, will be standing recently-retired American pacer Downbytheseaside in the next breeding season.
The son of recently-deceased sire Somebeachsomewhere has a full book for his first season at stud in North America this year, standing at Sugar Valley Farm in Ohio in partnership with Diamond Creek Farm.
Diamond Creek and Woodlands have an existing relationship with Sweet Lou shuttling between the two Studs in recent seasons.
Downbytheseaside rated 1.49.0 as a juvenile and went on to win over US$2 Million with 22 wins from 35 starts, including the Governers Cup, Art Rooney Final and Messenger Stakes.
Rasmussen gets stay from suspension
Natalie Rasmussen has been granted a stay of proceedings to appeal the three-week suspension handed down by Victorian stewards after the Hunter Cup on Saturday night.
Rasmussen was charged with failing to make a forward move once in the three-wide line, which Stewards believed impeded two following runners from getting in to the race over the last lap of the Group 1 feature.
The suspension would include Sydney’s big Group 1 night on February 24, likely preventing her from driving in the Miracle Mile and Ladyship Stakes.
She has lodged an appeal, which will be heard on an as-yet-undetermined date, and is free to drive in the interim.
