Lennytheshark not available to Kiwi breeders

Recently-retired star pacer Lennytheshark was announced on Tuesday as being part of the stellar Victoria-based Empire Stallions lineup for the upcoming breeding season.

But Empire head David James has confirmed the son of Four Starzzz Shark, who famously defeated Kiwi stars Lazarus and Smolda in a stirring 2017 Miracle Mile, who not be available to New Zealand breeders.

“The only stallions from our line-up available in New Zealand are Betting Line, Captaintreacherous, Rocknroll Hanover and Well Said,” said James.

Betting Line is the only one that will be shipped fresh and chilled, the other three all frozen options.

Official promotional material for as-yet-unannounced sire Fear The Dragon appeared in a New Zealand stallion guide this week, but would not be available, according to James.

The other sires on Empire’s line-up are Four Starzzz Shark, recently-announced rookie Huntsville, Modern Art, Pet Rock and Village Jolt.

Billy Badger to target New Zealand Cup

Trainer Robert Dunn has confirmed a New Zealand Cup campaign is in the plans for last week’s excellent Winter Cup winner at Alexandra Park, Billy Badger.

“After that win I sat down with (son) Johnny and (owners) the Gordons and we had a good talk about it.

“We think he deserves a crack at the top company so, he’s going to have a brief spell now while we map out some races for him.

“He’ll head back down south, because you just can’t risk doing a spring preparation up here unfortunately.

“It’s too much of a risk that the races won’t get off the ground.

“It looks like we’ll have him, Captain Dolmio and Alta Orlando for the Cup, which I think gives us three strong chances in what looks like being an open year.”
