DONEGAL BETTORGRETCH RETIRED

Former Group One Harness Jewels Trot Ruby winner Donegal Bettorgretch has been retired and is being bred with top trot sire Love You (sire of topliners Monbet, Habibti, Habibti Ivy, Enghien and Great Things Happen).

The pacing bred five-year-old Bettor’s Delight-Donegal Gretchen mare raced only 30 times, recording seven wins and 16 placings for $107,101 in stakes for owners Chrissie Dalgety (wife of trainer Cran Dalgety) and Kaikoura breeder, Murray Boyd.

Her big moment was beating Wilma’s Mate in the 2016 Jewels Ruby in 1:57 (1609m) at Cambridge, while she was also third to Marcoola and High Gait in the NZ Trot Derby and third behind Wilma’s Mate and High Gait in the NZ Trotting Oaks at three.

Her last win was over Petite One at Addington in August.

SEVEN NOMINATED FOR KAIKOURA CUP

Champion pacer Lazarus is amongst seven nominations for Monday’s Gr. 2 $50,000 Kaikoura Cup.

The Ashburton Flying Stakes winner is joined by his stablemates Piccadilly Princess and Waikiki Beach, as well as Buster Brady, Titan Banner and the northern pair No Doctor Needed and Better B Amazed.

The feature square-gaiters event on the programme, the Gr. 3 $30,000 South Bay Trotters Cup, is oversubscribed with 18 nominations and a full field will view the starters’ tapes.

Chief among them is Dominion Handicap second favourite Bordeaux while Paul Nairn has nominated his star-on-the-rise Ronald J as well as The Foot Tapper and One Over Da Moon.
