Tough run by Kiwi flyer
The Tim Butt-trained Kiwi flyer My Field Marshal overcame a tough trip at Menangle to win in 1:51.9 in the 1609m (mobile) feature pace on Saturday night.
Driver Anthony Butt was forced to sit three wide from a wide draw, but moved up parked and proved too tough in the run home, beating Allblack Stride by a neck.
Butt then drove 10-year-old trotter Kyvalley Blur for expat Kiwi trainer Brent Lilley to edge former Kiwi-trained Blazing Under Fire by a head in the feature trot in 1:56.8.
NZ Cup main target
Canterbury co-trainer Mark Purdon says slick New Brighton Cup winner Have Faith In Me will probably miss the Victoria Cup on October 19 to focus solely on the $800,000 NZ Cup at Addington on November 14.
Purdon and co-trainer Natalie Rasmussen were rapt with Have Faith In Me on Saturday at Addington, when the six-year-old won fresh-up after six months out.
Rasmussen gave him a perfect drag into the finish on the back of stablemate Dream About Me (parked) and he showed all his old speed to win by half-a-length from leader Titan Banner in 3:14.7 for the stand-start 2600m, the leaders running their last 800m in 55.4sec.
“I had three vets look at him at the end of his racing last season and the last one I was really happy with. We injected his hocks and he’ll have maintenance with them every few months, but that could have been the reason why his gait wasn’t perfect earlier,” said Purdon.
