11The Albion Park Harness Racing Club will play host to a strong ten race program this Saturday night.

And the night will belong to iron tough pacer, the one and only – Destreos.

The Ken Rattray trained ‘freak’ is set to break the record of former North Queensland pacer Cane Smoke, who raced 400 times between August 10, 1983 and September 4, 1991.

Destreos geared up for his record-breaking milestone with an impressive win against a similar field at Redcliffe last Saturday when handled by reigning Australian Driver of the Year Shane Graham.

Regular driver Kelli Dawson has received a medical clearance to rekindle her partnership with the popular pacer on Saturday night in what will mark her first race start since fracturing her tailbone and suffering bruised ribs in a bad fall at Redcliffe a fortnight ago.

Dawson has played a major role in Destreos’ lengthy career, having partnered the 12-year-old in 224 of his 400 starts.

And the natural lightweight has steered him to 52 victories.

On Saturday night, it will be start number 298 at headquarters of Queensland harness racing and the crowd favourite is chasing his 69th victory at the track.

Destreos will start from gate two in the 1660m sprint feature which is scheduled as race 8 on the card.

In recognition of the history making milestone, the Albion Park Harness Racing Club will make a special presentation to Rattray and owner Sally Stingel at the conclusion of the race on Saturday night.

With free entry to the track on Saturday night, the club is encouraging as many people as possible to share in this special milestone.

Gambling giant UBET are offering several jackpots throughout the program including a guaranteed $50,000 First 4 pool on the opening race plus a $10,000 jackpot.

A guaranteed Quadrella of $25,000 is also slated; the quaddie will be staged on races 2, 3, 4 & 5.

Again, the quaddie legs look open with several even races assembled meaning punters will get great value.

And a quick scan of UBET quaddie dividends at Albion Park in recent times has been paying handsomely.
