HRNZ MARKETING

This is the first of our weekly Harness Bookmaker reports from Richard Wilson of the New Zealand Racing Board. It should provide punters with some good leads to follow, and horses to place in your race trackers. Thanks very much to Richard for providing these on a weekly basis.

It was a busy week for Bookies with 6 meetings over 5 days.

Tuesday – Manawatu
A couple of hot favourites getting beaten helped get the week off to a reasonable start but there were some good collects too.  The best two bets were $150 Clover Kate @ $26 and $500 Sheeza Sport @ $8.50.  $2,000 Sauchiehall @ $2.10 also paid off.  Not so good were $2,600 Max Phactor @ $1.85, $1,000 Mekong Princess @ $3.90 & $3,000 Trouble Giero @ $1.70.

Thursday – Manawatu
A fairly good night for Punters at Manawatu.  Blair Orange was off to a flyer, winning the first 3 races & it looked like he was a shoe in to hit the well backed high numbers in the Special option.  Thankfully that was it for him though & a couple of rough results squared the ledger somewhat.  The best bet was $10,000 on Blair to win the Drivers Challenge @ $2.  $500 on Rhythm N Blues @ $7.20 was a good collect too & punters got some money back with Trouble Giero, the best $3,500 @ $1.55.  Going our way were $5,000 Toro Delago @ $2.70 and $5,000 on Saddlecloths 1-5 in R10.

Friday – Addington
Premier night with the NZ Breeders Stakes at Addington saw the turnover increase appreciably.  The best bets came betting around the favourites.  $1,000 Mighty Santana @ $5.20, $1,000 Utmost Delight @ $4.80 & $1,000 Born To Run (Top3) all netted healthy returns.  The best backed horse of the night was A G’s White Socks.  $2,200 @ $1.90 & $2,500 @ $1.80 the largest bets on him but there were plenty more into $1.75.  Also very well backed were Dizzy Miss Lizzy in the 3yo Fillies Final & Harriet Of Mot in the trot.  $1,400 @ $2.40 & 3,200 @ $2.20 on Lizzy and $2,000 on Harriet @ $1.75 missed the mark.

Friday – Auckland
A tough night for Punters at Alex Pk with a betting plunge coming unstuck.  Lacey’s Lad opened @ $2 & was heavily backed into $1.75.  The largest bets being $4,400 @ $1.90 & $2,600 @ $1.80.  The best bet of the night was $450 on George @ $8.50.  Healthy collects too from Yagunnakissmeornot $2.10-$2.25, Rob Stark @ $3.30 & Culpeka $1.85-$1.75.

Saturday – Oamaru
Grass track racing at Oamaru on Saturday & the best backed runner on the card got home.  Don Domingo was $3.10 into $3 & scored well.  The best bet was as juicier odds though.  $600 on Dying To See You @ $10 proving rather lucrative.  A couple of well backed runners on the card were Full Herbs (against Dying To See You), $4.80 into $2.80 and Its Elvis was $4.50 into $3.90 in R11.

Sunday – Winton
The old home track of Winton rounded out the week with windy conditions proving tricky to read for Punters & Bookies alike.  The best bet was $800 on Grace O’Malley @ $8 with $1,000 Kiwi On Show not far behind.  The biggest miss was $4,800 on Dexter Dunn to win the Drivers Challenge @ $2.80, but a couple of $500 bets on Craig Thornley @ $9 & $7.80 made him a bad result for us.  Chitura justified the $1.35 quote, 4 or 5 $1,000 bets didn’t have too many worries there.  A nasty smash marred the meeting somewhat with Blair Orange stood down after R6.  Thankfully both he and Ellie Barron came out of it fairly unscathed.  Betting on the Drivers Premiership is suspended however until Drivers are declared this week & Blair is among them.

Multi of the Week:
$115 spend @ Winton (Last 2 races)
Kiwi On Show @ $5.50
Hurricane Banner @ $8
Returned $5,060
