Monte rider Kima Frenning’s transition into traditional sulky racing has been a winning one.
The member of Team Aiken combined with Calcavado (5G Jeremes Jet/Rebekah) to win the first race of Victoria’s new Concession Drivers Series tonight at Bendigo in just her second race drive in a sulky.
Supported by Harness Racing Victoria, the Association of Country Harness Racing Clubs and the Bendigo Harness Racing Training Centre, the series promotes concession drivers with fewer than 25 career wins.
There are plans to run about 20 races in the series throughout season 2015-16, with the concession drivers to be promoted across social and traditional media while also securing more race opportunities.
Frenning and Calcavado, trained by David Aiken, upstaged Mister Bellisimo over 1650 metres in a rate of 1:57.7, Nathan Weightman driving the runner-up who was beaten a head.
Life Long Voyage for Matthew Horsnell finished third, with Kevin Weidenbach Jnr guiding Blissfull Spanker into fourth place.
