SOUTH Australians are being offered the opportunity send their mares to the sire of one of the modern day greats for FREE!
Thanks to the foresight of prominent horseman Shane Loone, proven stallion Tinted Cloud will stand in Two Wells during the upcoming breeding season.
In a tremendous act of generosity, SA breeders can have their broodmares served by Tinted Cloud at no cost.
With Loone able secure Tinted Cloud at no charge he has elected to pass on that good fortune to his peers in a bid to boost the local breeding industry.
“Bob Fowler had him at Allwood Stud in Western Australia and advertised him free to a good home, so I organized to have him here in South Australia,” Loone explained.
“He is getting on a little at 26, but he’s still got the record on the board and can serve a reasonable amount of mares.
“This way any broodmare owners who weren’t planning to pay for a service and miss out this year can send her to Tinted Cloud and hopefully get a top foal in the process.”
A son of In The Pocket from the No Nukes matron Test Ban, Tinted Cloud won 15 of his 36 starts with eight placings and a best time of 1:51.2 also to his credit.
At stud Tinted Cloud has produced numerous classy types, but none better than the mighty Smoken Up.
A fan favourite during his illustrious career Smoken Up is no stranger to South Australian enthusiasts having won the state’s Group One Cup an incredible four times.
Trained by the Victorian-based Lance Justice, Smoken Up was triumphant in 2008, ’11, ’12 and ’13.
The tough gelding was also runner-up in 2010 and 14.
As for his upcoming stud stint, Tinted Cloud will serve mares naturally according to Loone.
“He will only serve mares directly,” Loone explained. “This also helps keep the costs down.
“When the mares are ready it will be just a matter of bringing them to him and we’ll get them served by him.
“Hopefully this can help some breeders get a foal on the ground while saving money and help the local foal numbers in the process.”
