WELL-BRED youngster Fiore Stride will take another step towards matching one of her famous sibling’s feats when she competes at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.
Engaged in a Ladbrokes Australian Pacing Gold semi, the Craig Cross-trained filly is aiming for a berth in next week’s $322,000 Final and ultimately becoming a Group One winner.
By Art Major from Under The Mattress, Fiore Stride is a half-brother to Smolda, which has captured an incredible nine Group Ones.
Smolda is also Australian Pacing Gold’s richest graduate with a bankroll of $2,407,238.
Successful in her APG heat at Menangle a fortnight ago, Fiore Stride is capable of annexing her qualifier, but will need luck from barrier six according to Cross.
“The draw certainly makes it tricky for her, especially with the main two drawn inside her,” Cross said.
“As far as she is concerned, everything is spot on. She travelled down and settled in well yesterday and has done everything that could be asked of her on the training track.
“There is no doubt she can win if things go her way, but we’re just hoping to get through to the Final at this stage.
“Passions Delight is the one to beat, while Just Makemine Diamonds is bound to improve for Mark Purdon.”
Winner of her Melton-based heat for popular horsewoman Nicole Molander, Passions Delight has drawn to lead through from barrier two.
Finishing second at both her starts, Just Makemine Diamonds will begin from gate four.
