NZ HARNESS NEWS
MIRACLE Mile winner My Field Marshal’s return to racing kick-starts a busy couple of months for ex-pat Kiwi trainer Tim Butt.
My Field Marshal will step-out for his first start since that record-shattering Miracle Mile win when he tackles a free-for-all at Menangle on Friday night.
Exciting four-year-old stablemate Let It Ride resumes on the same night as he prepares for a return to NZ for the Taylor Mile and Messenger.
“It’s an exciting time for the team. We’ve just come off Bathurst where the filly (Glenledi Babe) ran a fantastic race for second (to Major Kiss) in the Tiara final,” Butt said.
“Now we’ve got our two best horses back in action this week.”
Butt said My Field Marshal seemed “even better” than during the campaign which netted him that scorching 1min46.9sec Miracle Mile win.
“We just battled the effects of hoof abscess, but with the time out he’s really sound now and seems fantastic. It’ll be great to take him back to the races Friday,” he said.
“He’ll run this week, probably back-up again the week after then it’s a two-week gap until the Bulli Cup, which what he’s back racing now for.
“After that he’ll have another run or two before the Len Smith and a trip to Queensland for the two big races up there.”
Let it Ride, who ran that terrific second to emerging star Jilliby Kung Fu in the Chariots Of Fire, is also primed for a return.
“He’s ready to go and then head to Auckland. The trip back there will be good for him and I’m sure he’ll be very competitive, especially with horses like Vincent, Ultimate Machete and Jilliby Kung Fu not running in the Taylor Mile and Messenger.”
Back to Bathurst and Butt was thrilled with Glenledi Babe’s run and now plans to spell her with a view to the Breeders Crown.
“She’s a filly we didn’t pay a lot for from NZ and the fact she was eligible for Bathurst made her even more attractive,” he said. “She can have six weeks out now and have a crack at the Crown.”
Butt’s impact at Menangle has seen him quickly outgrow his current stables.
“We’re up to 17 in work now and they are building another barn which means we can extend to 24 and we don’t want to go beyond that,” he said.
