Burnham trainer Daniel Reardon produced a golden effort with Gold Ace 5 year old mare Fernz Goldy when she won the Cheers To All The Great Helpers mobile pace at Addington yesterday.
“It was great. It was nice to see her win authoritatively for a change,” said Reardon.
That win notched up her sixth career win, and her fourth this season, from fifty six career starts, with over $64,000 in lifetime stakes.
“She’s always competitive. It was a turnaround on what usually happens in her start following a win – she usually runs last or second last – so to win two in a row is quite cool.”
Drawn two, driver John Morrison did not rush Fernz Goldy off the gate over the 2600m, electing to settle midfield early before working into the 1×1 position.
Morrison was able to extract themselves from what was quickly becoming a compromising position at the 850m to follow a stern move by Ricky May and third favourite Bettor Lover.
From there Morrison and Fernz Goldy were able to resettle outside the leader before asserting their dominance to scoot away and win comfortably by two and a quarter lengths. A time of 3:13.9, with a 1:59 mile rate and slick 800m in 57.6 is nothing to be sneezed at, particularly for this grade of horse.
“He (John Morrison) made the right call on everything. It was a perfect drive.”
Fernz Goldy will now be set for the winter rewards series final night which will be held at Addington raceway on Friday July 26th.
“She’s gone from rating 35 to rating 47 in just two starts. So we might have to look at a couple of Friday night starts before the winter rewards series.
So we just have to look after her and make sure she stays healthy until then.”
Reardon trains a team of three from his Burnham base, and has now won 23 races with over $235,000 in stakes.
“I have three in work at the moment. I help out Natalie and Jamie (Gameson). So it all works out good.”
Other highlights on the day included longtime maiden Bevron picking up his maiden victory at start number 43 for Leithfield Beach trainer Robbie
Holmes with Jim Curtin driving, while from a punting perspective not a single favourite won a race on the card.
