Promising three year olds Swamp Major and Galactic Star look an ideal quinella combination in the Alabar NZ Mobile 2400 pace at Winton on Friday.

The southern bred and owned Swamp Major ran into Lazarus at Alexandra Park in his two starts as a juvenile and second was his lot. He was given a decent spell after that to develop and mature, the benefits of which were evident when he resumed with a win at Ascot Park on Sunday. Galactic Star, with two wins and three seconds from five starts, came up against Hypervelocity on Saturday.

Expect him to make his sixth quinella on Friday.

Three year olds It’s A Deal and Western Delight have drawn one and two in the Woodlands Stud Mobile and are also a potential quinella combination but at longer odds.

From the strong Nathan Williamson team, It’s A Deal is the half brother to the big winning Best Deal Yet and drawn to have plenty to say. Western Delight, from the family of Western Dream, Dreamy Atom and Happy Dreamer began his career with Terry and Glenys Chmiel before joining Tony Stratford earlier in the season. He has had strong grounding ahead of his raceday debut.

The PGG Wrightson Sale of the Stars Mobile sees Devil May Care and Moondyne Joe pitted against each other and well drawn. Devil May Care, third in the group three Central Otago Cup early in January drops in class after contesting the

Invercargill Cup last week and will appreciate that. Moondyne Joe has been in great form of late and after running fourth to three good ones at Invercargill gets some relief here. The two look another good quinella combo.

Hokuri Railrida might be a good value bet in the Michelle Caig – Breeding for the Premier – Mobile Pace. The half brother to Swamp Major doesn’t boast the same strike rate and has drawn awkwardly, but did well enough under similar circumstances on the same size Wyndham track two starts back and even better at Invercargill last time when 10th favourite.
