ABtouch-WA Pacing Cup winner Rocknroll Lincoln has been retired.
The son of Rocknroll Hanover delivered trainer Justin Prentice the biggest win of his illustrious career to date in the 2019 edition of the $450,000 event.
The eight-year-old managed just nine starts in the three years following his Pacing Cup triumph and had to deal with several setbacks along the way.
Prentice said it was a difficult decision to retire Rocknroll Lincoln but indicated he was never able to recapture his best following each of the setbacks.
“Each time he got really close,” Prentice told TABradio
“I had him nominated and really close to having a couple of trials and he still wanted to really be able to do it.
“He looked as good as he ever looked but it got too hard.
“Unfortunately, they don’t come back and have an easy race or two where they can get that confidence and fitness back.
“You have to put the work up to them at home, so they don’t turn up to a Free-For-All and get hurt.
“It got to the stage where each time the pressure went on he couldn’t get through it.”
As well as the Pacing Cup win, Rocknroll Lincoln was successful in the Narrogin Cup, Governors Cup and Bunbury Cup.
Prentice said Rocknroll Lincoln would get the opportunity to enjoy life in retirement.
“He took us to the highest point he possibly could in WA harness racing in the Pacing Cup,” he said.
“We’ll never forget him for that.
“One of the owners Bruce Jones has got a paddock sorted for him in Harvey.
“He will live a great life there, like he deserves.”
