Easter Cup heatsBoth favourites in their respective heats of the Tasmanian Easter Cup failed on Sunday, Victorian Five Star Anvil (a son of McArdle) stepped away ok but found the 40 metre handicap too much while up and coming star Jerrys Jet (by Jeremes Jet) failed at his first teat at standing start and galloped away hopelessly to finish tailed off.

With Five Star Anvil struggling off his big handicap the second heat was taken out by local pacer Resurgent Spirit driven by James Austin for trainer Roger Whitmore, the son of American Ideal   proved too strong for TrulyBlissfull( a son of Blissfull Hall) with Major Callum (by Art Major)  a closing third and just ahead of Riverboat Jasper.

Resurgent Spirit was a top class juvenile winning his first 13 starts as a 2 and 3 year old his first defeat came in the 2014 Tasmanian Derby in which he finished third. His form this season has been first class finishing second in the Launceston in a mile rate of 1.55 before his effortless win on Sunday.

In the other heat went to former top youngster Melolyn enjoyed a lot of success as a two and three-year-old in Tasmania but in March last year his owner Mick Maxfield opted to send him to Darren Hancock where he stayed for almost a year.

Melolyn(Ponder-MiShaette) began safely from his 10 metre handicap and finshed too strong for  MachoComancho (by Royal Mattjesty) with Jaruzelski Leis (by Bettors Delight) a close-up third ahead of Queens Advocate (a daughter of McArdle)  who was slowly away from th4 standing start but finished off the event well.
