His father won an Inter Dominion and now Darren Binskin’s dream of winning the time-honoured feature is closer to reality.
Binskin’s father John won the 1988 edition with Our Maestro.
Now at the age of 61 Binskin he has his own two horses in the time-honoured series with Line Up and Alpine Stride.
Line Up produced a gallant effort in the first round of heats at Menangle on Saturday night when forced to do it tough outside the leader.
He finished third to Malcolms Rhythm and Spirit Of St Louis with the barest of margins separating the top three horses.
Alpine Stride finished seventh in his heat to Expensive Ego and his final quarter of 25.6 seconds was faster than the first four placegetters.
Binksin drove the Tony Bertwistle-trained Ardens Ace to victory earlier that night and the pair combine again today at Menangle with last start winners Itsarapt and Hands On in races three and five respectively.
Binskin also has Scenic Sky and Radar Stride at the meeting.
