Brighton trainer Rodney Ashwood continued his excellent form with a training double on the nine-race card held in Hobart on Sunday night.
Former Victorian pacer Lorimermajor was able to score at his second start since arriving in the state when leading all the way in the Cascade Draught Pace.
The Art Major gelding was able to lead from his pole draw and reinsman Paul Ashwood allowed him to bowl along in quarters of 29.8s, 31.5s, 29.0s and 28.4s on his way to a 4.3-metre win.
Lorimermajor started his racing career in Victoria where he was part-owned by Rodney’s son Alex.
Rodney Ashwood had to wait until the night’s final race to conclude his training double when Truscott Hall broke his Tasmanian maiden in the trot.
It was start 110 for the Angus Hall gelding who began safely to settle behind the leader before breaking stride near the mile mark.
Driver Rohan Hillier was able to quickly get the pacer back down and trotting before proving too strong for his rivals by 9.9 metres in 2m 5.4s for the 2090-metre trip.
It was also a good night for trainer Ray Pullen who also prepared a double on the card.
Eight-year-old gelding Castor Troy bounced back into the winner’s list in the Tasmanian Horse Transport Pace.
Sent out as an $11 chance, driver Hannah Van Dongen was able to weave her way through the field over the final lap to score by a neck over the fast-finishing Earl Jujon in 2m 0.6s.
The last leg of Pullens double came in the way of Gipsy Treasure, who registered her eighth career win later in the night.
From barrier two on the second row, Van Dongen pushed through to race outside of the leader with the seven-year-old mare proving too strong for her rivals in 2m 0.5s.
Lip Reader took out the night’s open class race and is expected to contest Sunday night’s Group 3 Devonport Cup, while Iden Forest continued his good form with another dominant win.
