AS SHE has done on numerous occasions, premier trainer Emma Stewart dominated the juvenile racing at Tabcorp Park Melton today.

With four heats of the rich Australian Pacing Gold series on the card Stewart put on a clinic by capturing each qualifier.

Stewart had seven runners in the heats with her haul including a quinella in the second fillies’ event.

“It was a very pleasing result,” Stewart said. “We went into the day thinking we had some strong chances but you don’t expect to win every heat.”

Jemstone opened Stewart’s account when she led throughout from barrier two.

Driven by Chris Alford, Jemstone rated 1:56.9 over 1720 metres to score from Mirissa Beach and Keayang Jackie.

Taking her record to three wins and a second from five starts, Jemstone is a half-sister to outstanding three-year-old Kualoa – also trained by Stewart – which is among the leading chances in tomorrow night’s Victoria Oaks.

Kualoa won her APG heat last season before an unplaced run in the Final.

“Jemstone is a nice filly which is improving with each run,” Stewart said. “With a bit of luck she can get a better result than Kualoa in the Final.”

Lightning Lana then followed her stablemate’s example when she set the pace before scoring from Treasure and Starsbythebeach.

Also driven by Alford, the two-year-old rated 1:58.6 to break her maiden at her third start.

By Pet Rock from Spirited Storm, Lightning Lana is a half-sister to 2016 APG champion The Storm Inside.

“Lightning Lana is also a very nice type which is getting better as she goes along,” Stewart said.

Stewart and Alford then combined to secure the colts’ and geldings’ heats with Be Happy Mach and Mach Dan.

Be Happy Mach maintained his perfect record from three starts by rating 1:57.2, while Mach Dan extended his tally to four wins and a third from five outings with his 1:57.4 performance.

“They both went well,” Stewart said. “They will all head to Brisbane now for the Finals at Albion Park in a fortnight.”
