Impressive debutantes were the order of the day at Wyndham on Thursday.
The Phil Williamson trained Our Golden Kenny started the meeting off by running to an impressive first-up win for driver Brad Williamson.
Soon after, Betta Watch Out from the Brett Gray stable sped to a commanding victory over her older rivals for driver Brent Barclay.
Gray has no plans to let the smart filly out of his sight.
Betta Watch Out is raced by fellow trainer Keith Norman and his wife Tracey who sent the pacer to the Gray stable to further her education.
Gray liked her so much he didn’t want to send her back.
“She is a lovely filly, she is still green and I think she still has more improvement to come,” the trainer said.
“I really like her, Brent didn’t pull the plugs or anything today.”
“There is a two-year-old fillies race at Invercargill early next month so we will aim her at that now.”
Potential buyers are sure to show plenty of interest in Betta Watch Out following her slick debut win.
But they won’t get a look-in according to Keith Norman who is keen to continue racing the filly.
The Gray stable doubled up later on the Wyndham card with the win of another talented filly in Joe’s Rock.
Like Betta Watch Out, the three-year-old led and sped away from her rivals.
Owner-breeder Bev Williamson has a potential broodmare on her hands in her debut winner Our Golden Kenny.
The three-year-old is a descendant of super-producer Frances Jay Bee, the matriarch of the outstanding ‘Kenny’ line of trotters.
Williamson is keen to hang onto Our Golden Kenny after losing her dam Nice One Kenny after she left a What The Hill foal this spring.
Nice One Kenny is a half-sister to Queen Kenny, the dam of star Australian trotting mare Queen Elida.
By leading trotting sire Love You, Our Golden Kenny looks a broodmare gem in the making but first the filly has a good career ahead of her on the track.
Phil and Brad Williamson also produced a Wyndham double with Majestic Love also scoring.
The filly continued an outstanding recent run for the Griffins Syndicate which race her.
The group also race unbeaten trotting filly Hidden Talent.
