As many in the harness racing industry are aware, well respected license holders Peter Davis and Margo Nyhan were involved in a serious traffic accident with their horses on the way to the Amberley Trotting Club meeting at Rangiora on Waitangi Day.

Despite their horse truck being involved in head on collision with another vehicle, remarkably Peter and Margo escaped the incident with non-life threatening injuries. But unfortunately they did lose one of their equine team members in Game Changer.

Unfortunately the road to recovery for both Peter and Margo is going to take some time. However Chairman Ken Spicer reported that they are in relatively good spirits after he visited them on Thursday.

True to the spirit of the harness racing industry, the news of this incident has spurred people in the industry into action. Rallying together to support the launch of Give A Little fundraising page.

Individual harness racing clubs have also started the process of donating funds, whilst some drivers have also pledged driving fees.

The Hororata TC has decided to co-ordinate a fund raising effort kicking off with a $1,000 donation and encourages other clubs and/or their members to make a donation through the dedicated account – BNZ 02-0820-0231955-13.

There has been an outpouring of support from all areas of the industry participants offering to assist in any way needed.

Harness Racing New Zealand is looking to offer some support in addition to the overwhelming industry support.

Peter and Margo are well loved and respected for their dedication to their horses and the industry and have always been the first to jump behind a good cause.

Just this time last year they were huge supporters of the Team Teal Campaign, donating their pride and joy, a teal Camaro, to be used at the Hororata Trotting Club’s Team Teal Day in 2018.

Our thoughts are with Peter and Margo at this time.
