South Australia’s star trainer-driver Danielle Hill admits she is unsure about just how long talented pacer Canada Bay will be in her stable.

Owner-breeder Michael Taylor, and Victorian trainer Kevin Brough decided to leave Canada Bay in Adelaide with Hill while the latter took a holiday.

“They brought him down for the Sires Produce, which he won, then with Kevin going away, decided to leave him here for the Silke Plate,” Hill said.

“He didn’t have much luck in that race and with a prelude and $9000 final they left him with me.

“I was really glad to get a win with him, and hopefully he can prove hard to beat in the final.”

A $2 favourite, Canada Bay sat one-out, one-back, before dashing up the home straight to score a three-metre win in the Leap Health Clubs Pace (1800m) prelude defeating Hilltop Rose ($3.40) with the leader Smooth Delight ($6), 1-1/2 metres away third.

“I’m not sure how much longer he will be here but I’m happy to keep him as long as they want. I’m pretty sure he is Bec’s (Brough’s partner Bec East) favourite horse so I’m thinking he will be going home soon.

“Actually, when I first drove him (a win in a Breeders Crown heat in May,2016), I thought he wasn’t a friendly horse and had a few issues. Now, he is just the nicest horse and I love him. I can understand why Bec is so attached to him.”
