Crime Scene pounced after a perfect trip for driver Blair Orange to down hot favourite Tas Man Bromac in the feature pace at Gore yesterday.

NZ HARNESS NEWS

Orange had the four-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight tucked up in the trail behind leader Gangnam Style, while Tas Man Bromac worked hard to improve from the back and sat parked with 1000m to run.

He hit the front halfway down the straight for trainer-driver Nathan Williamson, but Crime Scene, who had not race since January, finished strongly and beat him by a neck in 2:44.2 for the 2200m mobile.

He completed a double for Orange and Southland trainer Clark Barron, the pair also combining to win with A Smart Excuse.

Meanwhile, well-bred three-year-old colt The Bus backed up some solid Canterbury form for trainer Mark Jones by holding out local favourite Black Ops in a 2200m (mobile) maiden.

The Bus took over from Black Ops with a lap to run for driver Samantha Ottley and was too strong in the run home, winning by three-quarters of a length in 2:44.3, the last 800m in 58.7sec.

Out of 37-win mare Rondel Franco (1:51.6 US), he is by Art Major and is a half-brother to Saveapatrol (11 wins so far).

First-starter Black Ops, from 12-win mare Special Ops, was solid in defeat and will win at short notice.
