Could Bettor Isolate be the ‘smokey’ for the Rising Sun?
The Gr.1 $305,000 AQWA Constructions Rising Sun at Albion Park is scheduled for July 9, the opening night of the TAB Constellations.
Two invites have already been issued with Victorian stars Better Eclipse and Ladies In Red accepting to contest the 2138m mobile start feature, a further two invites will be issued to connections of three-year-old’s in the coming weeks.
Can Bettor Isolate force his way into the elite field?
Prepared at Ecklin South (near Terang) by talented horseman Mattie Craven, the lightly raced four-year-old looked sharp yesterday (Monday) when dominating his rivals at Hamilton.
Bettor Isolate rated 1:58.5 for the 2160m event while finishing off in a brilliant 26.5 seconds.
“I think he’s good enough to have a crack at a race like the Rising Sun, he’s got wicked speed and there’s still plenty of upside so I’m hoping he can squeeze into the field because I think he could really surprise a few people.” Craven said.
Bettor Isolate is by champion stallion Bettors Delight from the great producing Ashless Babe which makes him a half-brother to very classy mare and multiple Albion Park winner Scarlet Babe.
Again, Craven is planning on bringing a strong team north following his excellent results last year via mighty trotting mare Pink Galahs.
Craven had Kowalski Analysis compete in last year’s Rising Sun, but the speedster made a costly gate break in the race won by now North American based Amazing Dream.
With his team still being sorted for the 2022 carnival, former New Zealand pacer Lochart Shard has recently joined his stable and will definitely head north.
“Clients have just purchased him, and we’ll look at the Derby classics with him so the Redcliffe, Southeast and Queensland Derby races have all been penciled in for him.” Craven added.
Lochart Shard was previously prepared by the All-Stars operation (Mark Purdon, Hayden Cullen & Natalie Rasmussen) and the Bettors Delight colt has won twice from 15 starts to date.
The three-year-old is a last start winner at Rangiora on May 2.
The carnival runs from July 9 through until July 23.
