Harness Racing New Zealand (HRNZ), is seeking expressions of interest to undertake horse identification services from the 2019/20 season for a period initially of three years.  This position is available following the retirement of our Canterbury-based freeze brander John Boyd after an incredible 50 years of service to the industry.

The position involves the identification of approximately 800 Standardbred horses (aged approximately 1-6 months of age), by taking a hair follicle sample and by either freeze branding the horse and/or microchipping the horse.  The horses are located in the Canterbury, Marlborough, Nelson & West Coast regions.

To improve the traceability of Standardbred horses, HRNZ is in the process of transitioning from freeze branding to microchipping as a means of horse identification over the next three years.

Equipment and training will be provided to the successful applicant(s) with the work commencing in October 2019, and the programme completed by the end of February each season. Payment will be based on the number of horses identified, together with a mileage allowance and additional payment to the contractor for an assistant to help perform the work.  The successful contractor will be responsible for scheduling appointments with horse owners and studs, performing the identification duties and completing the paperwork required by HRNZ.

Please provide your expression of interest by 10th September 2019.

If you require any additional information please contact Liz Bishop on 021 996 194
