Northern Southland – 9 March

MORE THAN A TOUCH OF TEAL AT THE TROTS

The Northern Southland Trotting Club is well underway with preparations for their March race meeting which will also be the final meeting in the Southern Harness region as part of the Teal Pants Campaign which raises money for the fight against Ovarian Cancer.

The Teal Pants campaign sees $600 donated every time a female driver wins a race between 1 February and 10 March 2019. Each time a female driver is the first to greet the judge in the region Harness Racing NZ donates $200, the club at whose meeting the victory takes place gives $100, Woodlands Stud $100, Aldebaran Park $100 and Southern Harness Racing $100. The Teal Pants branding refers to the colour of driving pants worn by lady drivers during the promotion. Southern harness clubs are fully behind the campaign with meetings at Wyndham and Gore already having raised funds with meetings to follow at Winton, Invercargill and then the Northern Southland meeting.

The Caduceus Club Of Southland and Southern Bred Southern Reared have contributed $500 each to the cause and the Ascot Park Hotel are also assisting with a prize on the day.

To round off the campaign in the south the Northern Southland meeting on Saturday 9 March will see a big day of activity with competitions, merchandise and the opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause.

It is a major day for the club with three Group 3 races – the Yaldhurst Hotel Northern Southland Trotting Cup, the Prydes Easifeed Southern Lights Handicap Trot and the Caduceus Club Of Southland /Alabar Fillies Classic plus the Haras des Trotteurs Southland Trotting Oaks.

While the racing action will be of quality there are plenty of fun activities being held to help raise money for the cause – the fight against Ovarian Cancer.

‘Wear Teal and Win’ will give on course patrons the opportunity to win spot prizes such as betting vouchers, bottles of wine and more just by wearing teal –even just a splash of teal in your outfit will put you in line for some prizes. If you have nothing teal in your wardrobe, it is not a problem as there will be teal   merchandise on sale on the day with ties, ribbons and wristbands so while you are purchasing merchandise and supporting the cause you can also put yourself in line to win some great prizes.

There will also be teal labelled collection buckets taken around the course for donations.

Teal will definitely be the order of the day with teal driver caps set to be used in other promotions while each dress rug presented on the day will be emblazoned with the Ovarian Cancer Teal ribbon logo.

Meanwhile the club will also continue their season long promotions at the meeting with a losing ticket draw after Race 6 which will net a lucky punter a $1000 betting voucher while an Owners Prize draw will culminate with the announcement of the three prizewinners who will take one of three prizes – first a trip for two people to the Rowe Cup in Auckland in April with accommodation, rental car and a tour of Alabar Stud courtesy of House Of Travel Lakers and Alabar, second an afternoon hosted at Macca Lodge followed by an evening meal and accommodation in the motel at the Waikaia Hotel and third one night accommodation at the Ascot Park Hotel courtesy of the ILT. Two members will also be drawn prior to the meeting to receive a $100 betting voucher each.

Admission to the course on the day will be free!
