All participants obtaining a trainers or drivers licence must complete a training course under the Rules of Harness Racing. Up until recently participants had been required to complete a TAFE course but due to the withdrawal of vital funding, the cost of completing the respective courses would have increased by 1500%.
HRNSW has completely overhauled the process. Under the new setup students will enrol with the controlling body after paying a fee of $330. The student will need to undertake an online theory component through the Bendigo Training Centre and it can be completed in a timeframe that suits the user. The practical part of the training course will be managed by HRNSW assisted by professional trainers.
All students are required to complete a Basic Horsemanship Examination before beginning the practical study as the part of course.
