CHANGES TO GOLDEN NURSERY RACE CONDITIONS – 2019

Harness Racing SA (HRSA) advises that following a review of the Golden Nursery Series, conditions for the 2019 edition of the event have been amended to better reflect the current racing environment.

The most significant change being that the series has ceased being one requiring an early eligibility payment from owners. In making these changes HRSA has identified, that over past seasons, the ratio of nominated horses progressing to the heats has diminished and in consequence owners are being negatively impacted.

Additionally, with the Southern Cross Series also being subscription based, owners are being asked to nominate and pay some considerable distance out for the two most important two-year-old races on the SA harness racing calendar.

With respect to the timing of both the Golden Nursery and Southern Cross Series, it is recognised that, over time, these races have slipped further back into the racing season and owners and trainers are advised a review of the racing calendar is currently being undertaken whereby both races will be bought forward a number of weeks. Once the dates are confirmed they will be advised.

To be eligible for the Golden Nursery all horses must;

  1. Be at least 75% owned or leased by a SA resident as at 1st February 2019, and remain 75% owned by a SA resident at the time of the race, or
  1.  Be foaled in South Australia.

In addition, owners of horses must be SA BOTRA members at the time of nomination. (the closing time for nominations being advised once the race date is determined)

The 2019 edition will also be one of combined sexes with fillies being afforded preferential draws.
