There was a total turnover of $3.643m on what New Zealand Bloodstock described as a “solid” day’s trading on the second day of the national yearling sale in Christchurch.
The day’s highest purchase was the $240,000 paid for Lot 277, a Bettor’s Delight – Hartofdixie colt, prepared by the Winton-based Price Bloodstock.
Top trainers Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan secured that colt as well as Lot 200, for $160,000, on behalf of Dean Shannon’s Queensland-based Montana Park.
Lot 200 was an Art Major-Agree With Me colt, sold by Spreydon Lodge.
The day’s second-highest sale was a full sister to Amazing Dream. She was bought by bloodstock agent Peter Lagan for $190,000 on behalf of Australian owner Jim Giumelli.
Overall 71 yearlings sold today, at an average of $51,310 and a median price of $36,000. Seven yearlings were sold for $100,000 or more. The clearance rate was 74%.
“The key sale indicators are comparable to the 2022 statistics and we saw plenty of buyers active in the sale ring,” says NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray.
Day two of the pacers’ sale and the third and final day of the Christchurch sale will be held tomorrow, starting at 1pm.
