7HE is ranked as one of the outsiders in the Inter City Pace at Maitland’s TAB.COM.AU Carnival of Cups meeting this Friday night but can local pacer Robbiewillmakeit make it?

The six-year-old is one of only four horses to have won a heat to qualify for the 53rd edition of this feature race yet is currently a $26 chance with TAB Fixed Odds.

Drawing in barrier 11 but set to begin from barrier 10 with the scratching of Shadow Runner, driver Bryce Greenwood is hoping Robbiewillmakeit will gain a similar run to what he had in his qualifier last week where he caused an upset beating the favourite Luisanabelle Midfrew.

“It’s a lot harder this week because we are up against horses that finished first or second in their heats last week,” Greenwood said.

“We have a bad draw and unfortunately we can’t help these things but the horse has been racing well with a sit so hopefully we can get a nice cart into the race like last week.

“He can sprint like a bat out of hell and likes to chase the horse in front.”

Robbiewillmakeit came from back in the field to win last start which resulted in his 10th victory in 68 starts.

Bred and owned by Greenwood’s mother Robyn and trained by his father Neville at Mandalong, Robbiewillmakeit will break a long drought for the family who have not raced a horse in the Inter City Pace for 21 years.

“Pooli Undra won a heat for us as well and in the final was caught on the fence and couldn’t get out and ran fifth . . . Dad drove him that night,” Greenwood recalled.

“We still have Pooli Undra at home, he is our pet and waits for his half-a-loaf of bread every morning.”

And just like the Greenwood family that have had experience in the Inter City Pace before, so do the McCarthy family with driver Luke McCarthy winning three of the last five editions.

“The McCarthys are the ones to beat on Friday night,” Greenwood said.

“The mare that we beat had a pretty hard run last week and should go better again.”

The John McCarthy-trained Luisanabelle Midfrew is currently the $2.60 equal favourite with the Luke McCarthy-driven Express Stride.
