His children may be taking all the headlines of late but Hunter Valley horseman Mark Callaghan is about to make his own.
The father of top driver Jack Callaghan and up-and-coming reinsman Tom Callaghan is on the verge of his own driving milestone.
The 50-year-old heads to his local track Newcastle tonight with 593 career wins to his credit.
Although, Callaghan will not reach 600 winners tonight as he only had three drives locked in, the feat will be achieved soon.
Aside from his drives, Callaghan has five horses nominated at the meeting and he will share the driving on his pacers with his oldest son Jack.
The 21-year-old reinsman is in demand this weekend and after driving at Penrith last night and Newcastle tonight, he will drive at Menangle tomorrow and then Tamworth on Sunday.
He has started 2023 strongly with four wins already netted and will drive in six of the nine races at Newcastle tonight before preparing for a big metropolitan raid at Menangle tomorrow where he will reunite with top-class pacer Spirit Of St Louis.
