Harness Bookmaker Richard Wilson provides a weekly update of the major winning and losing bets from the past week.
Tuesday – Palmerston North
Michael House won half of the 8 races on Tuesday. The best bet was $9,999 on Proud Bromac @ $1.90. His stablemates, Scoob Operator $2.40-$2.20 & Mogul $1.95-$1.70 had plenty of support as well. Stopping the day be a complete disaster for us were $6,000 on It’s Me @ $2.70 and $2,500 Port Delight @ $1.70.
Thursday – Palmerston North
Some upsets were good for us on Thursday night. Rangi Rangdu got home @ $29 against a well backed JJ’s Delight $1.85-$1.80 ($10,000 @ $1.85) and Four Starzzz Legend @ $33 against Apocalypse @ $1.50-$1.42 ($4,000 @ $1.45). Still some good results for big punters with Mogul backing up for another win @ $1.50-$1.40 & Black Chevron turned the tables on C A Penny @ $2.10.
Friday – Addington
Not much between the top 2 bets at Addington on Friday night. $2,000 Miss You @ $5.50 & $1,000 Light Year Franco @ $9. There was plenty of support for Another Masterpiece. He opened @ $3.65 (allowing for deductions) & was backed into $2.50 with stablemate Jesse Duke also attracting support but drifting $1.55-$1.85. Plenty of money around for the debutants in the last race with $5,000 on Kingslayer @ $2.30 and Bettor Beontoit was $3.60 into $2.60.
Friday – Auckland
A bit quieter at Auckland with the best bet there being $1,600 Bettor Step Aside @ $2.90. The biggest plunge of the night was on Trojan Banner in race 6. Opened @ $3.60 ($3.30 allowing for Deductions) and was odds-on at $1.90 by start time. There was almost $20,000 invested on him. Thankfully, there were some big bets that didn’t come off. $6,500 The Lone Ranger @ $4.80 & $3,000 Majestic Hurricane @ $1.75 put a little back our way. The upset win by Sol Invictus @ $31-$51 helped as well as Massive Metro was well backed there, $3.10-$2.80.
Saturday – Invercargill
Punters had a good day at Invercargill on Saturday, latching on to most of the winners. The worst results for us were Black Ops, backed into $1.45, Buzinga $2.10-$2 & Daiquiri @ $3.40. Full Noise was very impressive on debut but was a drifter from $2.50-$2.80 as Riteur had more support @ $2.90-$2.60. A $2,000 bet on Trouble Giero @ $2.90 also provided us with some relief.
Sunday – Rangiora
A decent plunge in the last race on Sails was the highlight for punters on Sunday. Opened @ $15 she was backed into $7.50 & was a terrible result for us. $500 @ $10 was the best of many bets on her. $5,000 on Queen Bee Bardon @ $1.70 proved lucrative as well & there were a fair few punters on Westar Maggie @ $13. Dragging a little back for us were $3,000 Tinker Tailor @ $2.40, $2,300 The Great Redeemer @ $3.10 & plenty of $500 bets on With The Band @ $4.20, $3.20, $2.90 & $2.70.
Multi of the Week:
$22 @ Rangiora
Fletch @ $10
Glengarry Knight @ $9.50
Returned $2,090
