Harness Bookmaker Richard Wilson provides a weekly update of the major winning and losing bets from the past week.
Wednesday – Cambridge
Three Kisses was the best backed horse at Cambridge with bets of $2,000 @ $2.10 & $10,000 @ $2 coming unstuck. Punters latched onto Caitlyn Clarke $1.65-$1.50 and Malibar Spur was well found @ $8.50-$8. Christanna @ $4.20-$4.40 & Somewhereinbrooklyn @ $9.20-$5.50 were also good for punters.
Thursday – Forbury Park
A tough night for punters on Thursday night. Not many large bets to report. Brian Norman trained the first 3 winners with Dexter Dunn driving the latter two & all three were bad results for us. Results in the middle of the programme fell our way though. Fraud & McLaren were both well backed in R5 but both struggled, the Pat Campbell was strongly backed @ $4 in R6 but found one too good. Punters struck back in the last with Honour the bet $10 into $7 salvaging the night for many.
Friday – Addington
Another night at Addington dominated by well backed commodities. With Ice $7-$8.50 & Mystical Star $6.20-$6.50 were two winners that punters missed out on but all the others were well found. Bettor Joy $1.85-$1.70 was the best backed runner on the night.
Friday – Auckland
Group racing at Auckland & all winners were $7.50 or less with us. The best bets were $500 Billy At Salsa @ $7 & $660 Lemond @ $5.50. A few $1,000 bets got home on Winterfell @ $2.40 & Habibi Inta was well backed around $3.40. A bit of a plunge came unstuck in R2 with Double O Heaven $20-$7.50. $400 @ $20, $600 @ $12 & $1,000 @ $9 the largest of a stack of bets there. Enghien was strongly backed in R6 taking the sting out of Lemond’s win. Three horses dominated the Taylor Mile with Star Galleria attracting four $1,000 bets, two @ $2.60 & two @ $2.40. There was $3,000 Let It Ride @ $3.50 & More The Better has a couple of $1,000 bets @ $4.60.
Saturday – Invercargill
A wet day & slushy track made for a bad day for hot favourites at Invercargill. $600 Miss Bamboocha @ $7 was the best bet but Dachy @ $5-$4.60 & Duke Of Wellington @ $5.50 were well liked by punters. Eastwood Chieftain provided a blowout @ $28-$41 scoring well in R2. $2,500 bets on Feel The Money @ $1.80 & $1.75 missed the mark as did $2,800 Rockaball @ $1.70 & $2,800 Hail Christian @ $1.70.
Sunday – Rangiora
The best bet at Rangiora was $7,200 on Dexter Dunn tow win the Drivers Challenge @ $2.10. Nervous times early on with no points after 3 races but he had it wrapped up with a couple to go. The day kicked off with a decent plunge on Oscar Bonavena. He was $4.80-$2.40 with bets of $500 @ $4.80, $4 & $3.50, $1.000 @ $3, $1,200 @ $2.60 & $1,300 @ $2.50 plus plenty of smaller bets along the way. Koromiko Eyre was strongly backed but didn’t deliver in R2. $1,500 bets at both $2.30 & $2.20 & $2,000 @ $2 missed out as did $2,300 Arnold @ $1.70.
