Our weekly Bookie Update from Richard Wilson. Blair Orange dominated Manawatu while the Allstars dominated the South Island last week.
Tuesday – Manawatu
Blair Orange day @ Palmerston North as he won 5 of the 8 races. Thankfully a quiet day in terms of big bets but punters had the better of the bookies. $600 Marshal Star @ $5.20 was the best bet closely followed by $3,000 Twitter Bromac @ $1.70. Plenty of multis cashed in on Blair’s dominance – he placed in all 3 races that he didn’t win.
Thursday – Manawatu
A quieter night for Blair with just 2 wins, but decent bets on both. $2,500 Mustang GT @ $2.20 & $1,000 Whataboyz @ $3.50 providing healthy collects. Keeping us in the game were well backed favourites that missed in Twitter Bromac, $6,500 @ $1.90 & $2,500 @ $1.80 & Classie American.
Friday – Addington
The big go on Friday night was Anthem. Opened $3.20 & backed into $2.20, the largest bets being $2,500 @ $2.80, $5,000 & $3,000 both @ $2.30. Funatthebeach also got an army of supporters home with bets of $1,000, $1,500, $1,800 & $2,500 all @ $1.90. Helping us out were some big bets on Bettor Joy, $3,000 @ $1.60, $3,500 @ $1.55 & $4,000 @ $1.50. Kicking off the night on the right foot for us was $5,000 Ohanzee @ $1.55, that one going down to the stablemate.
Saturday – Wyndham
Kindergarten Stakes day @ Wyndham & the Allstars dominated the race, smashing the race & southland record by a full second. Whilst a late plunge on the tote made the winner, War Dan Delight, the tote favourite, it was stablemate Jack Jones that was heavily backed on the book. $2,000 @ $1,000 bets @ $1.95, $2,000 @ $1.85, $2,500 @ $1.80 & $7,000 @ $1.75 made the race a fairly good one for us. Race 2 was also good for us with $4,000 Semiramide @ $1.50 & $3,000 High Line @ $4.20 both missing out. It wasn’t all plain sailing though. A few winners were well found by punters. The Doorman $7.50-$5.50, Ossessione $7-$6 and Mach’s Back $39 into $16 against a strongly backed Come Dance With Me $1.35-$1.40.
Sunday – Cambridge
Betting on R4 was very quiet until about 10 minutes out then Shanway was plunged. $3,000 @ $3.40, $2,000 @ $3.20 & $3,000 @ $3 cashing in there. Other well backed runners to get home were Step Up $1,700 @ $1.90, Shandance @ $2.40, Gold Orchid @ $1.50 and The Persuader $800 @ $4.50. Idealistic was the one that saved out bacon. $2,000 bets @ both $4 & $3 were the largest of a big stack of bets that missed by a nose & a head.
Sunday – Banks Peninsula
Money well spread in most races at Mot on Sunday & not many big bets to report. Some decent collects were landed though. $300 Laytons Lass @ $17 was the best with $332 Anna Kate @ $8.50 lucrative as well. $2,000 Matau Gem @ $2.50 was the biggest single miss of the day & Sheza GNP was the best backed.
