Trainer Gary Hall Sr is both relieved and excited.
His stable star Beaudiene Boaz emerged from the first form slump of his career to score the most breathtaking of wins in the Navy Cup (2130m) at Gloucester Park last Friday night.
It was a devastating win.
Amazingly, after three below par runs, Beaudiene Boaz was sent out an $8.20 shot behind the $1.40 favourite Bettors Fire.
In contrast to recent runs, Gary Hall Jr drove Beaudiene Boaz ice cold. He snagged back from a wide draw to sit last and must have giggling when the leaders scorched through the first 600m before Bettors Fire finally found the lead.
Knowing how much petrol the leaders had spent, Hall Jr unleashed Beaudiene Boaz with a three-wide run around the field from the top of the straight with a lap to go.
Within 300m and despite Bettors Fire’s best efforts, Beaudiene Boaz whizzed around the field to snatch the lead and Hall Jr just kept going.
“That’s the Beaudiene Boaz we know,” Hall Sr said. “It was so great to see and then for him to keep going right on with him in those sorts of times.”
Beaudiene Boaz obliterated the track record with a 1min52.9sec mile rate, taking 0.7sec off David Hercules’ mark.
He won by 7.7m from Bettors Fire with another 33m away to Our Blackbird in third spot.
It’s no full-steam ahead to the Perth Inter Dominion, starting on November 25.
“I’ve tried a few different things with him. We actually worked him a bit harder this past week,” Hall Sr said.
“Now it’s down to pick the right path to the Inter Dominion. I’m keen to space his races a bit.”
Beaudiene Boaz firmed from $21 into $14 in Aussie markets for the Inter Dominion.
