APG have now had 2 recording-breaking sales events in Brisbane and Perth already this year, along with a very solid Melbourne sale, however, the excitement is far from finished.
The great news for buyers is that we’ve arguably saved the best till last, with APG’s Sydney Sale featuring more American Ideals (17), more Art Majors (18), more Bettors Delights (22), more Captaintreacherouses (17), more Somebeachsomewheres (13) and more Sweet Lous (10) than any other APG Sale this season!
Sweet Lou led all-comers last season on an earnings per starter basis, with his first crop of 19 x Australasian 2yo starters amassing 27 wins from 90 starts at an amazing average of $33,576 per starter ($8,000 higher than the second placed Bettors Delight).
Bettors Delight still shows no sign of slowing down, with his combined Australasian progeny earning over $21 million last season – over $9 million ahead of the second placed Art Major.
Such was Bettors Delight’s continued dominance, that he was the leading sire (based on overall progeny earnings) in each of the 2yo, 3yo & open age divisions across Australasia, and was second to Sweet Lou based on average earnings per starter.
Somebeachsomewhere continues to shine, despite his limited foal numbers following his untimely demise, finishing second behind Sweet Lou in Australia’s 2yo ranks for average earnings per starter, and finishing in third place behind both Sweet Lou and Bettors Delight for all-aged average earnings per starter across Australasia.
American Ideal once again proved his value, with his Australian 2yo’s earning over $23,000 per starter – placing him fourth, behind Sweet Lou, and only a whisker behind Somebeachsomewhere and Bettors Delight. He also rounded out Australasia’s Top 5 stallions, based on total progeny earnings.
Finally, it may only early days for the first crop of Captaintreacherous 2yo’s in Australia, but he’s certainly hit the ground running, with 4 of his 11 Australian starters already recording victories, headed by Captain Braveheart who won impressively on debut in 1:53.3
