When the very sad news of the passing of Harry Capararo (harness racing legend) started filtering into the news on Saturday 27th April, the sport realised they had lost a very significant breeder in the west. Harry was surrounded by his family to the end and he fought a tough battle with cancer but it was always on his terms and he never once said “why me”.
He passed with great dignity and strived to leave everyone he met better off for having known him. Missed by Matilde, Peter, Rio, Rhiannon, Riley, Jarrod, Luca, Tate, his extended family & friends and the harness racing community. His legacy will live on and his much loved broodmares still have plenty more winners left in them.
From the time APG took over the WA sale in 2017, Harry under his Adda Equine Stud, threw his full support behind both APG and Harness Racing in WA.
APG have been trusted with 11 much loved mares of Harry’s which will be sold under the banner, Estate of Harry Arialdo Caparara .
The APG National Mixed Sale is now full and closed and APG is working on the best way to honour Harry and his family.
As a breeder, Harry was able to breed some very distinguished race track performers, however, one I’m sure, would have given him the ultimate joy, a stallion called Rich And Spoilt.
The N1 entire son of Million To One, won 20 races from 42 starts and north of $300,000 in prizes money, plus Rich And Spoilt was able to achieve very solid results as a sire. A mare Harry bred back in 1997 called Cams Flirt, also out of the same N1 family as Rich And Spoilt, typifies to me how good this stallion was when used with the correct mares.
Adda Double Dip / Rich And Spoilt / Cams Flirt won $209,272
Rebecca Amy / Rich And Spoilt / Cams Flirt won $97,465
Billionaire Bob / Rich And Spoilt / Cams Flirt won $91,624
Flirtalicious / Rich And Spoilt / Cams Flirt won $62,641
In Total he has just over 350 progeny of racing age, and with 19 x $100,000 plus winners, he has done a wonderful job.
We look forward to celebrating Harry’s legacy in the lead up to this sale.
