Don’t be surprised to see Saturday’s Winton winner I’mallaboutthebase racing at Alexandra Park sometime in the future.

Pukekohe trainer Ray Green recently produced her half-sister Delight My Soul to complete a hat-trick of wins on the northern track and Steve Baucke, who bred and races the pair with his wife Carol, indicated the success had created demand.

“Ray wants to know if I’ve got any more,” he said.

“I’ve got no immediate plans for her (I’mallaboutthebase) but at some stage it might be the best move for her.”

A dairy farmer at Woodlands, east of Invercargill, Baucke moved to Southland from Hamilton in 2000.

He has been on his present property for about five years and prepares a small team on the training track he installed there.

I’mallaboutthebase and Delight My Soul have been his two winners this season.

The win of Delight My Soul was back in November and, although the daughter of Bettor’s Delight and Soleil D’or had a couple of placings afterwards, Baucke said she was dogged by bad draws.

“She needed a change if luck and we thought the smaller fields in Auckland would help.”

A three-year-old filly by Shadow Play, I’mallaboutthebase gained early exposure to top class opposition.

She finished a creditable sixth on debut in the Kindergarten Stakes and at her second start was runner-up to subsequent Jewels winner Dizzy Miss Lizzy in the Caduceus Club Of Southland Two year Fillies Classic, both Group 3s.

Although she’d gone on to finish runner-up three times this season, Baucke said I’mallaboutthebase had been unlucky more often than not and the two-draw today was a major factor in the win.

Taken to front at the get-go by Craig Ferguson, they controlled the race throughout, reeled off a 58.7 last half and 27.8 final quarter to win in commanding fashion by three lengths.

Along with their racing team, the Bauckes also have four broodmares in their paddocks but Soleil D’or is not amongst them.

“We sold her about two years ago,” Baucke said.
