THE barrier draws for both the Bathurst Gold Tiara and Bathurst Gold Crown Finals have thrown up an extra challenge for trainers Shane and Lauren Tritton as they strive to become the first trainers to win both Group 1 Finals on the same night.
The Tritton stars, Divine State (Gold Crown) and Mysweetchilliphilly (Gold Tiara) fared poorly at the draw with Divine State now having to come from the outside of the front line in eight and Mysweetchilliphilly drawing gate 10 on the second line.
The 31st running of the Group 1 Crown and Tiara finals will take place this Saturday Night (March 25) at the Bathurst Paceway and despite the best trainers from Australasia trying to grab the training double it has never been done.
The Trittons’ horses are still hot favourites with the bookmakers and driver of both horses Chris Geary is also hoping to become only the second driver in Gold Crown Carnival history by winning both big finals on the one night.
Ricky Thurlow grabbed the rich double in 1998 with Flubber (Gold Crown) and Terricherry (Gold Tiara).
