SOUTH Australian horseman Aaron Bain is hoping for a big weekend.
Along with competing at his home track Globe Derby on Saturday night, Bain will be chasing a pair of features in Launceston.
Locally Bain has two runners in the mares’ event – Alcatraz Lass and Eyesdown And Looking.
Although the former has fared better in the draw, Bain rates the latter as his best chance of success.
Winner of her last two starts, Alcatraz Lass will begin from gate three with Ken Rogers in the cart.
Eyesdown And Looking will come out of six with Wayne Hill holding the reins.
A recent addition to the Bain stable Eyesdown And Looking has a win and two placings from three starts since crossing the Tasman.
“Eyesdown And Looking is the better of the two,” Bain said. “She has a lot of potential and is still improving since she got here.
“Her draw is a little tough, but it’s a small field and she is more than capable of overcoming it.
“Alcatraz Lass is not out of it by any means, but this is a step up for her, so it will be interesting to see how she handles the test.”
Despite his confidence in the duo, Bain rates Bubbles And Cheese as the one to beat for astute horseman Bronte Giorgio.
A multiple feature winner, Bubbles And Cheese is the widest runner in barrier seven.
“Bubbles And Cheese is clearly the danger,” Bain said. “We just beat her home in the Spring Challenge a couple of starts ago but that counts for little.
“She is a quality mare which is the one to beat.”
Across Bass Strait Bain has Ideal World engaged in the Golden Apple and Godofthunder in the Launceston Trotting Cup.
“Godofthunder shapes as the one to beat in the Cup, but it will be a lot harder for Ideal World,” Bain said. “If he can win it would be terrific, but I will be happy if he runs a good placing.”
