OUTSTANDING youngster Our Little General will continue his march towards another major target when he heads to Ballarat on Friday night.

Scoring first-up from a spell at Hamilton last week, the Australian Pacing Gold graduate will contest the Colin and Heather Holloway Three-Year-Old Classic for trainer Emma Stewart.

Stewart is utilising the feature as a lead-up to the Vicbred Super Series, which begins with heats at Kilmore on June 22.

Should all go according to plan, Our Little General will then contest the semis at Melton on June 30 and the Group One Final at the same venue on July 8.

“Everything he does this time in will be about having him at his peak for the Vicbred,” Stewart said. “He was only beaten a head in last season’s Final and can hopefully go one better this year.

“He’s done well during his break and we were pleased with his run at Hamilton.

“He has improved since then and will be better again at Ballarat.”

Although drawn widest of the six runners, Our Little General has been installed a $1.20 favourite in the 1609-metre sprint.

Stewart also has Rockroll Icon and Form Analyst in the event, with the pair drawn three and five.

“They are both racing well and have fitness on their side,” Stewart said.

Along with the Vicbred, Our Little General has the Breeders’ Crown in August, which will see out his season.

The son of Mach Three captured last season’s Crown by leading throughout, a performance he repeated to secure the Victoria Derby earlier this year.
