The first in a series looking at noteworthy Australian broodmares.

MISS TOMMY (1915 Tommy II/Lady Ostic; family of Lady Ostic, CF A4) : winner, NTT (no time taken); seven foals for four winners.

Miss Tommy’s sire Tommy II (2:19.5) was by Childe Harold’s son Prince Harold from Beauty (NTT), a daughter of Viking (2:34.9), also by Childe Harold and imported mare Violetta who furnished a terrific winner producing record including Era, Pirate, Viking, Violetta Junior and sire Burlington Junior.

Her single race winning dam Lady Ostic (3:16.7) was a daughter of Ostia, the son of champion Australian Osterley (T2:24,8TT and leading sire), another by Childe Harold and North American import Lucretia, dam of Globe Derby’s sire Mambrino Derby. Miss Tommy boasted a triple cross of Childe Harold blood.

Miss Tommy was the dam of seven foals for four winners including Cas De Or, 2:16.8, TAS Meander Cup; Casmoyne, 2:24.0; Cascades Best 2:14.9; Cassana, unraced dam of Spot Cash, 2:12.8, Leeton Cup and most importantly Casirus, 2:16.8, winner of eight races in Melbourne (seven Richmond, one new Ascot).

Casirus left three winners from her four foals : Blue Grass (2:14.6, successful sire); Wilveroan (2:17.4); War Effort (2:23.7, Leeton Derby, successful sire) and Wilveranji sired non-winner Ranji Maid.
