AUSTRALIAN BROODMARES OF NOTE : THE MIRROR

Another in a series looking at noteworthy Australian broodmares.

THE MIRROR (1928 Dandy Patch/mare by Judge Huon; foundation mare of her own Tasmanian family, CF A43) : winner, 2:32.8; four foals, all winners.

The Mirror’s sire Dandy Patch (2:28.4) was the winner of eleven races in Hobart (five Northall Park; three Elwick; three Risdon), Tasmanian Hall of Fame inductee and successful sire of numerous Tasmanian winners/broodmare sire of many more.

Dandy Patch’s pedigree featured Childe Harold as his great grand sire while his successful Strathmore line winner producing dam Inveresta who was imported from North America (2:25.0, winner of seven Melbourne races, six Ascot; one Fitzroy) leads through to ID Pacing Grand Final (plus three heats) and Hunter Cup winner Radiant Venture.

The Mirror’s dam was a mare from Judge Huon, 2:50.9, successful sire including Spot, 2:16.3 (Melbourne Thousand, WA Cup heat) and broodmare sire of many including ID Pacing Consolation winner Cheerful and Dominion Hcp winner Huon Voyage.

The Mirror’s blood was a combination of two of Tasmania’s earliest and best sires Dandy Patch and Judge Huon. Her descendants include a number of nationally prominent racehorses : Bandbox, Pure Steel, Mont Denver Gold, Shadow Sax, in addition other classic race winners.

The Mirror was the dam of four foals for four winners including Bold Brat (1938c Van Derby), 2:20.2; Julievan (1942f Van Derby), 2:14.9, dam of two non-winning foals plus winner producing broodmares :
