This week sees the running of the 2018 Australasian Young Drivers Championship held in Brisbane.
This year we have Benjamin Butcher representing the North Island, Sheree Tomlinson representing the South Island and our New Zealand Representative is NZ Junior Driver Championship winner Alicia Harrison.
Butcher and Tomlinson have both attended the Championship before but for Harrison it is her first year. “I am really looking forward to the opportunity to represent New Zealand and being able to drive in different circumstances to what I am used to and meeting new people, it should be a great trip”.
The trio will compete in three races while in Brisbane, the first of those on Thursday 22nd at Albion Park. They then drive on Friday 23rd at Redcliffe and again at Albion Park on Friday 24th November. The trip includes a Welcome Function, Go Karting, other activities and the race meetings.
Butcher who attended the Championship in 2015 said “I am rapt to be back on the trip and looking forward to driving over in Brisbane and meeting the other drivers in Aussie. After the great time I had last time I attended I am sure we are all in for a good time again”.
Tomlinson who attended last year and finished 6th is hoping to have better luck this year “I was lucky enough to attend last year as well and finished in 6th place, I am hoping for a bit more luck this year and to place higher up,” said Tomlinson.
Fields for the meetings will be released in the next few days and will be on https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fields/
Updates will be available throughout the Championship on www.hrnz.co.nz and on our Social Media pages.
