Prominent south-east breeders Peter and Lesley Medhurst provided the two highest lots at the SA Silver Salver Yearling Sale held at Globe Derby Park on Sunday (March 27).

An Art Major colt out of the McArdle mare Princess Fiona NZ was secured by Aaron Bain Racing and Summit Bloodstock for $28,000, while the Sunshine Beach colt from Oy Ve Bromac NZ was bought by the FIVE540 Racing Group for $16,500.

Both colts were prepared by Mandy Pascoe, of Ningana Park.

The top priced filly was the A Rocknroll Dance-Towelling filly, also consigned by the Medhurst’s at $12,000, the same price paid for the Major Secret-Rockfromcork colt from the Ningana Park draft purchased by Toby Ryan.

A colt by Downbytheseaside out of the Holmes Hanover mare Ymbro Coco, was knocked down to Temora horseman David Heinjus for $10,500.

Two new buyers in Tony Faranda and Daniella Madalinski were active at the sale. The former secured two lots in the Always B Miki-Modern Madam colt and the Major Secret-Lady Penrose filly and the latter outlaid $8,500 for the Major Secret-Jimbaran Bay colt.

Two broodmares in Our Burning Desire NZ, in foal to Major Secret, and Taylor’s Delight were both bought by Kapunda breeders Michelle and Shane Collins.

Sales co-ordinator Gary Newton said “it was a very pleasing sale in general, the colts bought good money and it was great to see new owners purchasing yearlings.”
