DOUBLE eligibility has Jewel Melody in a strong position to claim her second Australian Pacing Gold Final during the weekend.
Triumphant in APG’s Bullion Final at Club Menangle on April 30, Jewel Melody is engaged in Saturday night’s $156,000 decider at Albion Park.
The Group One is for pacers purchased via APG’s Brisbane Sale.
Successful in last week’s prelude, the Bernie Hewitt-trained filly has drawn to lead throughout from barrier two.
Pleased with the two-year-old’s progress, Hewitt is confident Jewel Melody can add the feature to her impressive tally of five wins and four placings from nine starts.
“I couldn’t be happier with her,” Hewitt said. “We’ve been up here for a couple of weeks now and she has settled in beautifully.
“I was more than satisfied with her run in the prelude and have no doubt she will be better again.
“Her work this morning was very good and she’s ready to go.”
Citing My Ultimate Jacko as the main danger despite his back row draw, Hewitt believes Maywyns La Nina has the opportunity to pose a threat from the pole.
“My Ultimate Jacko was runner-up in the prelude, has strong form and is the one to beat again,” Hewitt said.
“Maywyns La Nina was well-beaten last week, but she’s drawn to get the right trip again to put her into the race.”
