Husband and wife Kyle and Lauren Harper landed a 100% strike rate at last Monday’s Pinjarra Harness Racing meeting – the duo each had one drive on the card and BOTH saluted the Judge!

Kyle was victorious in the feature event on the program, the Group 3 $30,000 WA Country Derby aboard Been Scootin, for trainer Ray Jones in a thrilling three-way finish.

Sent out as second favourite in the race, Been Scootin lead easily from barrier one and withstood the late challenges of Little Darling down the outside and Rock On Top, who flew late using the TABtouch Sprint Lane.

Kyle has driven the promising three year old gelding at his last six starts, for three wins, a second, third and fifth placing.

In the following race, Lauren steered Elish Star to a comfortable all-the-way win in the Retravision MS Trot, for trainer and owner Karen Bennett. It was the four year old gelding’s fourth win from thirty six starts.

Elish Star was bred by Allwood Stud Farm by their resident pacing stallion Follow The Stars, out of Elishgood. He began his career with trainer Peter Anderson, but after four starts as a pacer was purchased by Karen Bennett and his more natural trotting gait was established.

Follow The Stars has proven his versatility as a sire, producing a number of successful trotting offspring.

Today at Pinjarra Paceway Kyle lines up with Been Scootin once again from barrier one in the Drakesbrook Fine Wines Pace, and also drives Brewery Lane for Maryann White in the Chaff City SS Pace. Lauren and Kyle go head to head in the last race this afternoon in the Atrium Hotel Trot, with Lauren aboard Elish Star and Kyle partnering Majestic Dream, both for trainer Karen Bennett. Karen’s husband Frank Bennett will steer their third runner in the race, Westland Peak NZ. Lauren’s charge has come up with the pole position, with the talented Nickys Son to her outside in barrier two.

Kyle and Lauren were married in 2021 and welcomed their son, Leo, in January this year. Leo’s arrival didn’t keep Lauren out of the sulky for long, she was straight back driving the trotters in March.
