TRAINER Shane Tritton is “gutted” by a serious injury to flying mare Arms Of An Angel, but vowing to do everything he can to get her back to the racetrack.
The brilliant former Kiwi mare was diagnosed with a some serious knee damage and the vet told Tritton and his wife, Lauren, it could end Arms Of An Angel’s career.
“It was a bad diagnosis, that’s for sure,” Shane Tritton said. “The reality is though, we won’t know the full extent for another week or so. We need to wait for the injury to settle to get a better, more clearer scan done.”
Tritton first feared something wasn’t right with Arms Of An Angel when she ran a below par sixth at Menangle on December 10.
“She broke for no reason and then didn’t go that good afterwards anyway,” he said.
“She seemed fine after it, ate-up well and everything.
“She cantered yesterday (Wednesday) and felt good, but then didn’t seem right when she’d cooled down to I got the vet to look at her and they found the knee problem.
“Regardless of what the end prognosis is, I’m committed to getting her back to the races. It just might take a fair while.
“They told me Lombo Kotakinabalu would never race again and I got him back.”
In other stable news, Tritton said his buzz four-year-old Salty Robyn – unbeaten in five runs this campaign – would not race before clashing with Lazarus at Menangle on January 21.
“He’s had a good foundation and won’t need another run. I want him sharp,” he said.
“Lauren thinks he’s special. He can run 25sec quarters with the plugs in.
“He’ll be able to run a 1min49sec mile sitting parked if he has to.”
