Promising Canterbury three-year-old filly Angel Of Harlem has been sold in a big-money deal that will see her leave our shores.
Clients of Perth trainer Mike Reed have purchased the daughter of Mach Three from her West Melton breeder, owner and trainer Barry Ward.
Angel Of Harlem was placed in both the Harness Jewels and Australasian Breeders Crown as a two-year-old last season and won her second start back on a new campaign at Addington on December 7.
“She flies out tomorrow,” said Ward.
“I didn’t really want to sell her but, at the end of the day, she’s probably not going to beat Mark Purdon’s best ones or Nigel McGrath’s good one (Dizzy Miss Lizzy).
“You’ve got to be realistic – how many Group 1s is she going to win here? And the answer would have to be more than two to earn near to what I sold her for.”
Ward says Angel Of Harlem is definitely the best horse he has trained and he told Reed he felt she would go on to be better than Reed’s former good mare, Libertybelle Midfrew (A$640,497).
“She’s the best horse I’ve ever had but, at the end of the day, you’ve got to keep paying the bills.
“Funnily enough the bank manager called me yesterday for the first time in a while!”
