ALWAYS ON POISED TO CONTINUE SCOTT’S WINNING WAYS
In-form trainer Matthew Scott has sounded an ominous warning to his rivals about his latest stable acquisition Always On, who lines up in the 2018/19 GP Trotter Of The Year Sun Of Anarchy Pace (1730m) at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The Always A Virgin gelding lines up for the first time in a race in WA this week and possesses and impressive record of eight wins and six placings from 26 starts.
Always On did his racing for Barry Dunn in Victoria and his most recent start was a strong 4.3m win at Mildura on July 24.
Scott said he had been impressed by what the five-year-old had shown him in his short time in the stable to date, but felt he may still be a level below some of his stablemates who have come across to WA recently.
“He’s a very big horse,” Scott told GPTV Powered By RWWA.
“He’s got plenty of ability.
“He beat Neighlor on Saturday morning so he’s going pretty good.
“He’s no Son Of A Tiger, but he’s definitely going to pay his way.”
Always On has drawn barrier four for his first-up assignment on Friday night, where Bee Seventeen (barrier one) and Atmospherical (five) look set to be among the main dangers.
Scott said he would likely let reinsman Shannon Suvaljko push forward from the draw, but was unsure if he had enough to lead.
“Whether we lead or not, that’s problematical,” he said.
“If he doesn’t win this week keep following him, especially when he draws because he has got good gate speed.”
Elsewhere, Scott said he was confident Neighlor was capable of continuing his winning ways in Friday’s 2018/19 GP Driver Of The Year G E Hall Jnr Pace (2130m).
The gelding scored his first win this campaign on August 27 and steps up in class this week, where he has drawn barrier five.
“Neighlor came here last week and led from a wide barrier,” Scott said.
“It’s a lot quicker line on Friday night, but he will go forward.
“If he can’t lead, he can get cover on the horse drawn outside of him Bob Wheel.
“It took a couple of extra runs to get him back to his best, but I think he’s ready to run a good race.”
Scott also has Rock Me Over, Brookies Jet, Cut Above, Son Of A Tiger and Jaxon Fella engaged on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Our Corelli looks well placed to make it back-to-back Free-For-All wins in Friday’s TABtouch-York Cup Pace (2130m), where he’s drawn barrier one.
King Of Swing (barrier three), Vampiro (four), Mr Mojito (five) and Handsandwheels (seven) loom as other key runners in the $30,000 event.
